I have done a few projects at home to create costumes. I have made my prom dress for my Year 11 prom, I have made a Poison Ivy costume for my sister for a fancy dress party, and I have made a 1952 French Gypsy dress.

This project was based around Wicked. We had to chose a setting or scene from the musical and design a set for it. I chose Act 1 Scene 4, which is a classroom scene, I research the sets used on the musical and realised gears and clockwork are a big design feature, so I drew from this and created a steampunk classroom set, with barebrick walls and gears and a working curtain that reveals the chalkboard back wall. I made it all with card, paints and material wrapped round kebab sticks for the banners and curtain.
In this project we were comissioned to design a new arch enemy for Doctor Who. We were told it would have the body of a man and the head of an alien creature, we were to invent the alien and create a clay bust of the creature for BBC studios. I decided to create a creature who was from a very marshy, acidic planet so his skin is constantly melting and reforming, inspired by melting candles and snakes shedding their skin. First we made a marquette to work from then used newspaper and wire to frame the shape before covering it in clay and adding detail. After it was fired I painted it and added wax for the skin dripping texture.
We were told to choose a character from Wicked and create a makeup look based on that character. I chose the tin man, although he is a minor character I wanted to try to get a good effect on my face to make it look like its constructed out of metal.
In makeup we did a lesson on body painting. It was fun to research and fun to do on eachother, I researched different images people have used for bodypaint and tattoos and saw if i could replicate them on myself. I also painted the dark mark on my friend.
This year we were invited to help do makeup at the Zombiewalk Birmingham 2014 in aid of Birmingham Children's Hospital. There are 3 stalls people pay for; Basic- whitening the face, adding hollowed eyes and blood for £5, Standard- basic with some latex detail effects for £15 and Premiere- more latex detail and makeup effects for £25. I spent most the day on the basic stall but I also did a couple of standards and one premiere that my tutor recommended to me. I was quite nervous as it was the first time I'd done makeup on stangers but ended up having fun. I also did my own makeup and took part in the walk.
Each christmas we've helped BMAPA put on their christmas productions of The Little Match Girl and A Christmas Carol. We've helped do makeup, costumes and props. In the Little Match Girl we collaborated with a fashion student to create the match girl costume, we added aging effects to the costume I added the pocket and the aging effects to the apron. We also built the lampost used in both productions. In A Christmas Carol we built props and altered costumes. I helped built the four poster bed.
This project was all about skills building and 3D. We researched different techniques and materials then made a mask based on an animal, I chose a dragon. I did alot of DIY research to see how people have used recycled materials like paper and card to create shapes. We also practised clay and made gargoyle masks. In the end i made the mask out of a milk bottle and icecream box, my dad carved some horns for me and I covered it in paper mache and painted it to finish.
In this project we were told to document our activities over the summer in a concetina sketchbook we had made previously. I had a series of outings to our caravan on the coast, trips to see Wicked and Shakespeare in Love at the theatre, a vintage fair, a picnic in Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and my family holiday to Cyprus. When we came back to college in September we were told to make a set based on our sketchbook and what we did over the summer. We were given a board to work on which would then be put up against the wall in the induction exhibition, we were also told to include 3D elements. I wallpapered my board using leftover wallpaper from my house to symbolise my trips from home. I made a window frame and painted a view from Cyprus to put behind it to symbolise our holiday. I then repainted a chest of drawers I had to match the wallpaper then stuck family photos from Cyprus on the sides. In the drawers I put a range of props to symbolise my other trips; a scarf and dress I brought from the vintage fair, a picnic blanket from my trip to YSP, a makeup box with assorted makeup and backstage photos to symbolise Wicked, and an aged script and quill and inkpot to represent Shakespeare in Love.
