My friend is having a birthday party for her 18th and the theme is through the ages- anything from cavemen to 1950's. I decided to go as Tiger Lily from Peter Pan. I brought my accessories from Claire's because they all the festival stock in at the moment which is the style I need, I got a feathered headband, feather earrings (clip ons) and some temporary tattoos of feathers and metallic patters. I also brought some canvas Toms style pumps from shoezone. I would've made the costume but I am in the middle of my final major project at college which is taking up the majority of my time, so instead I brought a beige cotton/linen dress off Amazon that I could alter.
When I tried it on it came to just below my knee and the sleeves were half way to my elbows, but it fit round me nicely and the band came just under my bust, with the belt I added to it it fit nicely. To alter it I laid it flat on the floor and measured a v shape in the bottom, which I cut out. Then I cut off the embroidery round the neckline and halved the sleeve length. Using the cut offs I make strings of tassles by cutting slits into strips of fabric, I then pinned and hand sewed these to the neckline and bottom edge. When I'd finished I tried it on again and it looked alot more like a dress Tiger Lily would wear. I'm quite pleased with it, I also created a makeup look to go with it.
For the makeup I used orange and yellow on the lid, just like a real tiger lily, then a bright green- blue on the lower lid to contrast and match my necklace, I added red lines on my cheeks to reflect the nectar at the centre of the flower.
