For this project we were set the task of making a miniature set box with the theme of ourselves. We were to include things that would describe us. I used the setting as my bedroom because this is my own little sanctuary for when the world get too much. I included clouds because I like to daydream and invent stories. I included a 'family tree' because my family are the most important people in my life. I added a woodland scene in autumn out the window because I love woods and forrests, they give a mystical and safe atmoshpere and I love the colours in autumn. I added a Tim Burton gallery corner to represent the side of me that loves his dark, slightly twisted yet adorable style. I added a microphone to the middle to show my love of singing and a big chunky tie-dye bed to show my love of colour and the chunky style of cartoons, especially Disney.
To create the portfolio PDF we had to learn how to use InDesign. We created a PDF explaining how to use it as part of our porfolio project.
For my first makeup project we looked at how makeup styles developed over the last 100 years. We looked at makeup from the 1920's, 1940's and 1970's. We researched each era and the looks to recognise signature features of makeup from each time. We then completed designs for each era and finally did a complete hair and makeup look on a model. Please read the PDF file for more information on my assessment look.
In my second year to get back into the swing of things we revisited this theme. I chose a sixties Twiggy look to do.
For our first project the brief was to create large versions of objects as props for 'The Borrowers'. During this project we completed large scale drawings of out prop objects as well as making them. I created a large button, needle and thread. Our objects were then presented in an exhibition after we took photos of them on stage. Please read the PDF for more information about the making process.
In this project the brief was to design and create a costume for the character 'Veruca Salt' from 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. During this project I researched each of the main characters; the five children and 'Willy Wonka', completed design sketches and fabric samples and constructed a pattern which I then used to make the dress. I photographed each stage and presented the process with annotation in my sketchbook. The dress was made out of a red cotton with a textured dye finish, this allowed it to look like velvet, a more appropriate material for the nature of the character, while still being affordable. I added frills to the neck and sleeves and a large red bow to show the characters over-dramatic, attention seeking nature. Please read the PDF for more information on the process of making the dress.
